Permanent residency applications from the Express Entry system are processed by IRCC within 6 months or less. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): Requires at least 1 year of skilled work experience, education, language ability, and other factors.
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): For skilled trades workers with 2+ years of experience and a job offer or a Canadian certificate of qualification.
Canadian Experience Class (CEC): Designed for certain temporary foreign workers and foreign student graduates who have already gained 1+ year of skilled work experience in Canada.
CRS POINTS SYSTEM
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is used to assess and score Express Entry the main applicant and their accompanying spouse based on factors like:
Age
Education
Language ability in English and/or French
Work experience
Arranged employment in Canada
Adaptability (e.g. Canadian work experience, education, family ties)
Those with the highest scores out of 1200 points are invited to apply for permanent residence in regular draws from the Express Entry pool. Draws can be program-specific, occupation, profession, industry-specific or general.
EXPRESS ENTRY + PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAMS (PNPS)
Many provinces and territories operate their own Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) that are aligned with Express Entry.
They can independently select and nominate candidates through the Express Entry pool.
Receiving a provincial nomination alone provides an additional 600, which effectively guarantees an ITA in the next Express Entry draw.
